Windows are a great focal point in any room so it’s important to ensure that your window blinds and shades are decorative as well as functional. With so many styles of window blinds and shades out there, we are spoiled for choice. But it’s also easy to feel overwhelmed when trying to make the right decision on window blinds and shades for your room.
Before making any decisions, take a deep breath and let’s consider the following:
LIGHT and PRIVACY
Do you want your room to have a bright and open feel to it or do prefer the room to be contained and cosy?
Should light be blocked out for uninterrupted sleep in the bedroom or should a sheer fabric allow the sunshine to brighten up your kitchen?
CLEANING and MAINTENANCE
Let’s face it, all window shades and blinds are going to require some level of cleaning.
Vertical blinds are less likely to collect dust because they stand vertically.
Fabrics may require professional cleaning or a vacuum and sponging down, while aluminium or wooden blinds may just need a wipe down.
Keep in mind that some fabrics require special care and you may want to think twice before putting suede window blinds or shades in your toddler’s bedroom.
What is your decorating style and what style is suitable for your room?
Do you have a formal and ornate reception area? Should your lounge be chic and minimalist or casual for the whole family?
Do you prefer bold colours or prefer a neutral approach?
With young children in the house you may need to consider cordless blinds. We could also recommend ways of securing your cords so they are out of little one’s reach.
KITCHENS AND BATHROOMS
Wood blinds are not a good choice for bathrooms and kitchens. The moisture in the air will very likely damage these blinds. Instead you could opt to go for polymer or faux wood.
I hope the above will be of some assistance in steering you in the right direction.
